Set the responsibilities before installation
Ask who supervises filling, checks the water, and communicates the care instructions. Write those names into the scope. A completed surface is the start of another stage of work, and the household should know what help will be needed after the crew leaves.
Test the water you will actually use
SAWS reports that its supply is typically hard water. That is a reason to measure the incoming water rather than assume a generic chemistry recipe fits your pool. A property with a different water provider or a private supply needs its own assessment. See SAWS water-quality information.
Follow the selected finish instructions
Keep the manufacturer’s written startup procedure with the job records. It should guide the filling sequence, water care, brushing, and when equipment can be introduced. Do not restart a salt system, heater, or cleaner simply because installation has ended. Get the applicable timing from the person managing startup.
Hand over a record, not just a set of keys
Keep water-test results, the product name, installation date, and service contact together. Arrange the transition to whoever will maintain the pool afterward. That person needs the same instructions, especially if your old care routine differs from the new finish requirements.

Keep the first weeks in the budget
Ask whether visits, testing, and materials are included, and what the homeowner is expected to do between visits. Record the readings and any advice received. A completed construction invoice does not mean the new finish no longer needs startup attention.
